Draft Variations to implement some recommendations of the Integrated Plan for Red Hill Nature Reserve and Surrounds - DV380 and DV384
Integrated Plan for Red Hill Nature Reserve and Surrounds
Friends of Grasslands (FOG) is a community group dedicated to the conservation of natural temperate grassy ecosystems in south-eastern Australia. FOG advocates, educates and advises on matters to do with the conservation of native grassy ecosystems, and carries out surveys and other on-ground work. FOG is based in Canberra and its members include professional scientists, landowners, land managers and interested members of the public.
FOG has been involved in various matters concerning the Red Hill Integrated Plan for many years and has made submissions on this matter. On the basis of involvement in workshops and discussions, FOG supports the draft variations as follows:
- DV380: rezone and include Deakin section 66 blocks 7 and 8 and section 78 block 13 into the surrounding urban open space network, to add the urban open space zoned land into the ‘pc – nature reserve’ public land overlay and thus allow the land to be formally incorporated into the adjoining Red Hill Nature Reserve.
- DV384: amend the Red Hill and Garran Precinct Maps and Codes consistent with the Integrated Plan - recommendation 7 in relation to future development for a retirement village at the Federal Golf Course (Red Hill section 56 parts of block 1).
We wish to stress our support of comments made by Red Hill Regenerators and Michael Mulvaney on the plan, and in particular:
“While the Integrated Plan was not exactly what Red Hill Regenerators would have wanted, it is a good compromise of conflicting interests and delivers big on woodland conservation. It is important that the proposed Territory Plan Variations 384 and 380 that enact the Plan’s intent and woodland conservation are implemented."
Yours sincerely
