Dear Lawrence
SolarShare draft landscape plan
Thank you for advising Sarah Sharp of the availability of your draft landscape plan for public comment.
Friends of Grasslands (FOG) is comfortable with the concept, and in particular the use of native species, in this plan. However, the Majura Valley is an area with much high conservation value grasslands and grassy woodlands, and we think that some of the actual species specified on the plan are out of place in this area. The tree species selected are local and appropriate to complement the habitat in this area, with the exception of Eucalyptus moorei and Melaleuca linearifolia. On the other hand, a number of the smaller trees and shrubs are not local and two species, Acacia boormanii and A. cultriformis have become naturalised and have the potential to displace local species in the surrounding areas. Other non-local species may also have the potential to become naturalised in the ACT.
Our recommendation is to make use of local species only, and to get advice from local groups such as Greening Australia as to what local species are hardy and would meet your requirements.
Yours sincerely
Geoff Robertson
